SXSW 2010… Have a Kick-Ass Time!

SXSW_2010SXSW 2010 starts today in Austin, Texas. Here’s just a peek into what films will be shown there over the 10 days of the festival.

Two big films will have screenings on Friday night alone, with Matthew Vaughn showing his adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic Kick-Ass and Robert Rodriguez will unveil Predators to his hometown audience. Saturday will have both Elektra Luxx and 13 screening. MacGruber will also be screened on Monday, though there is ongoing legal trouble with the creators of MacGyver regarding the film. The Runaways had its premiere at Sundance, but will be screening at SXSW as well.

Other films are generating a lot of buzz is Aaron Schneider’s Get Low, which stars Robert Duvall and Bill Murray. BARRY MUNDAY, written and directed by Chris D’Arienzo has an impressive cast which includes Patrick Wilson, Chloë Sevigny and Malcom Macdowell.  Chloë Sevigny has two films making their World Premieres at the festival, with the other being Mr. Nice, written and directed by Bernard Rose and also stars Rhys Ifans, David Thewlis and Crispin Glover.

Documentary Feature films are a big part of the festival.  The People vs George Lucas  examines the dynamic between the filmmaker and his fans over the past three decades. SATURDAY NIGHT is a documentary directed by James Franco who had full behind the scenes access to the writers, actors and producers of the show Saturday Night Live and shows what it takes to put together just one episode of the show. American Grindhouse explores the American Exploitation film. Lemmy delves into the personal and public life of Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

SXSW goes from March 12-21 and is more than just a film festival, with musicians, filmmakers, internet and gaming creators showing their wares to a very eclectic and accepting audience.
