The cast of the Smurf film is growing. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hank Azaria has joined the cast as the voice of Gargamel, the evil sorcerer and sworn enemy of the Smurfs.
Azaria is a veteran voice actor, with many animated characters to his credit. He voiced Bartok the bat in Anastasia and voices a multitude of characters on the Simpsons including Moe Syzlak, Chief Clancy Wiggum, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.
Jayma Mays (Glee) has also been cast as the pregnant wife of Neil Patrick Harris. The two are the human leads in this live-action/animated hybrid coming from director Raja Gosnell.
The film centers on the happy expectant couple as their lives get turned upside down when they meet the little blue folks in Central Park.
Azaria and Mays join other cast members Neil Patrick Harris, Alan Cumming as Brainy Smurf, George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette and Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf.
Production is set to begin next month and is slated for release July 29, 2011.
