McGowan Joins Cast of Conan

Momoa_McGowan_ConanMonday,it was announced that Ron Perlman and Said Taghmaoui had joined the cast of Marcus Nispel’s Conan film.  Today the news is that the last primary role of the film has been cast.  According to Variety, actress Rose McGowan (Charmed, Scream) has been cast as “an evil half-human/half-witch” opposite Jason Momoa as Conan.

This is interesting news, given that McGowan has been attached since 2008 to play Red Sonja in Robert Rodriguez’s planned adaptation of the warrior heroine. Red Sonja exists in the same universe as Conan, but the description of the character McGowan will be playing in the Conan film bears no resemblance to Red Sonja. The director of that project, Douglas Aarniokoski, hinted that Conan might make a cameo appearance in that film. Reports are that Red Sonja has been delayed until after Conan finishes filming.

McGowan joins cast members Jason Momoa (Conan), Rachel Nichols (Tamara, Conan’s love interest), Stephen Lang (Khalar Singh), Bob Sapp (Ukafa Singh), Ron Perlman (Corin, Conan’s father), Said Taghmaoui (a leader of a band of theives) and Leo Howard (young Conan). Filming began Monday at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Conan is set to hit theaters in 2011.
