According to Variety, Columbia Pictures has confirmed that Doc Savage will be coming to movie screens and will be directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang). Shane Black is a co-screenwriter on the project, along with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. Neal Moritz has been tapped to produce the film, and is fresh off his work on The Green Lantern. Columbia co-president Matt Tolmach had this to say about this latest project:
“Doc Savage is an icon, a character with limitless possibilities. We have had a great experience working with Neal, and we think he and Shane make the ideal team to bring Doc Savage back to the big screen.”
Pulp hero Doc Savage was a bronze-haired scientist, adventurer, explorer, physician, researcher and inventor and trained himself to almost superhuman perfection. “The Fabulous Five” were his companions and had their headquarters on the 86th floor of what seemed to be the Empire State Building, as well as an arctic hideout known as the Fortress of Solitude (which was named well before Superman’s). Doc didn’t believe in taking human life, and relied on gadgets and non-lethal weapons to subdue his enemies.
