Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Catches a Mermaid

Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_4_castFrench actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey has joined the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, she will be playing Syrena, a “beautiful and alluring young mermaid.”

Though relatively unknown outside of France, Berges-Frisbey has appeared on stage at the Theatre Marigny in Paris in a production of Peter Shaffer’s Equus and has been seen in the French films Un Barrage Contre Le Pacifique and Premiere Etoile. She will also be seen in the upcoming film, Bruc.

Berges-Frisbey joins Ian McShane as Blackbeard, Penelope Cruz as Blackbeard’s daughter and Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow as he sets out to find the legendary fountain of youth. As of now, Geoffrey Rush’s involvement in the film is still just a rumor. Both Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom will not be reprising their roles from the previous pirates films. Rob Marshall (Chicago) is directing from a script by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, based on a novel by Tim Powers with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

The film starts shooting this June and will be shot in Hawaii, Great Britain and Los Angeles.  It is due out in theaters May 20, 2011.
