Paul WS Anderson Announces Three Musketeers Cast

Anderson_Three_Musketeers_CastJust a short while ago, Warner Brothers announced that Doug Liman had signed on to direct a Sherlock Holmes-ish take on the Dumas novel The Three Musketeers. Today, Paul WS Anderson has announced that his version for Summit Entertainment now has a  stellar cast, filled with rising stars and even an Oscar winner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, the Musketeers are as follows:  Ray Stevenson, best known for his role as Titus Pullo on HBO’s Rome, is Porthos, Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans) will be Athos and Matthew  Macfayden (who plays the Sheriff of Nottingham in the upcoming Robin Hood) is Aramis. Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief) is on to play D’Artagnan, a young man who leaves home to train with the French king’s royal household.

The big bad baddies on the film are Oscar winner Christoph Waltz as the dreaded Cardinal Richelieu and Danish actor Mads Mikkelson (Clash of the Titans, Quantum of Solace) to play Rochefort.  Anderson’s wife, actress Milla Jovovich will play Milady de Winter, Athos’ former love and is being described as a “17th century Bond girl”.

Also, rumor has it that Orlando Bloom is in talks to portray the Musketeer’s nemesis, the  Duke of Buckingham.

The script has been written by Anderson and Andrew Davies, and the film will have a contemporary feel although it will be still be set in the 17th century and will be shot in 3D.

Both Anderson’s and Liman’s versions of the story are set to begin shooting this fall.  No word on when either will reach theaters.
