Patrick Dempsey has signed on for Michael Bay’s Transformers 3, according to Variety.
Mostly known for his work in romantic comedies and on the hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy, it looks like Dempsey is switching things up with this role. Though little is known about the plot for the third film in the Transformers franchise, it seems that Dempsey will be playing Mikaela Banes’ (Megan Fox) boss and will be very “significant to the plot.”
Dempsey said this about his new role to the Brazilian website BOL “I start filming later this month – in Transformers 3 I play a character who is far more dark than others I’ve played.”
Casting choices for Transformers 3 are definitely taking an odd turn. Dempsey joins actors best known for their independent film work, Frances McDormand and John Malkovich on the film. Both Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are reprising their roles, with Michael Bay directing again.
Production on Transformers 3 begins later this month, with shooting on location in the US, Moscow, Africa and China. Transformers 3 is set to hit theaters July 1, 2011.
