With shooting beginning today, two roles that were still vacant for the Green Lantern film have now been filled. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taika Waititi and Temuera Morrison have joined the cast ensemble for the film.
Morrison will play Abin Sur, the Green Lantern who gives his power ring to Hal Jordan before dying. Waititi has been cast as Hal Jordan’s best friend, Thomas Kalmaku.
Morrison is best known as bounty hunter Jango Fett in the Star Wars films. Waititi is not as well known as an actor outside of New Zealand, but was an Oscar nominee in 2005 for his short film “Two Cars, One Night” which he both wrote and directed. They join a cast that includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Tim Robbins, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Martin Strong.
Warner brothers has revealed that Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern film will be released in 3D, though it is not known at this time whether it is being shot in 3D, or will go through the same conversion process that Clash Of The Titans went through. Either way, Green Lantern is set to hit theaters June 2011.
