James Patterson’s Maximum Ride May Land at Universal

Maximum_RideAfter sitting for a year at Columbia in development, Universal is swooping in to take James Patterson’s Maximum Ride series of young adult novels to the big screen.  According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is still attached to the project, with father-son team of Avi & Ari Arad and Steven Paul producing.

The series of books follows six teens who were genetically altered to be part human/part bird and are known as the Flock.  They learn to fly and escape from the laboratory they have called home, only to be pursued by another group of genetically altered humans called the Erasers who are part human/part wolf.

The writing team of Mark Fergus and Hawk Osby (Iron Man & Cowboys and Aliens) have been hired to write a new draft of the script.  No word yet on  when filming is set to begin.
