Hathaway is Selena Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan has finally found his Catwoman in Anne Hathaway for the last film in his Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises,  according to Warner Brothers Pictures official press release.

Hathaway beat out many of young Hollywood’s best for the role that included Kiera Knightley, Jessica Biel, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Rachel Weisz  and Natalie Portman.  According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Christian Bale left the National Board of Review’s dinner in New York City early to fly to Los Angeles to conduct some of the last screen tests. Though the script is tightly under wraps, it should be noted that according to the press release, Hathaway has been cast as Selena Kyle, the woman who has the alter-ego of Catwoman.  It will be interesting to see which Catwoman origin story they use for this latest film.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story” stated director Christopher Nolan.

In other news, the role that Tom Hardy was cast last October has now been revealed. Hardy will be portraying “the man that broke the Bat,” Bane.  Nolan, who has worked with Hardy before on Inception, had this to say:

“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Nolan will be directing from a screenplay we co-wrote with his brother,  Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.

Though no word yet on when production is set to begin, The Dark Knight Rises is set for theatrical release on July 20, 2012.
