With so many remakes and reboots being announced left and right, it was only a matter of time before giant monsters would come alive again on the big screen. Now comes word that Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights from Toho Company for everyone’s favorite giant lizard, Godzilla.
Legendary Pictures, the studio behind the upcoming Clash of the Titans has stated this new update will not be a sequel to the critically panned 1998 Roland Emmerich film, but a re-imagining of the original Godzilla films.
The president of Toho, Hideyuki Takai, said in a release: “We are anxious to find out where Godzilla’s new stomping will take us.”
Warner Brothers will co-produce, co-finance and distribute the film for Legendary. Legendary Studios is hoping to announce a director n the project shortly and is tentatively looking at a 2012 release date.
