Doctor Who Companion Joins Guardians of the Galaxy

Karen Gillan, best known as Amy Pond on the BBC show Doctor Who, is joining the cast of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in the U.K.in late June.

Other cast members include Glenn Close, who recently  joining the production, and Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana andDave Bautista. Gillan will play the movie’s lead villain, joining fellow villains Lee Pace andMichael Rooker.

The Scottish actress played companion Amy Pond inDoctor Who‘s fifth through seventh series. The character was hugely popular and appeared in Doctor Who books, apps and video games. Gillan has several indies scheduled for release, includingOculus, a horror flick with Katee Sackhoff.
