Darabont Lets Go Of The Walking Dead Writing Staff

The_Walking_DeadFrank Darabont writer/ producer of AMC’s hit series, The Walking Dad, has let go the writing staff for the second season of the series including the executive writing producer Charles “Chic” Eglee, according to Deadline.

Word has it that since Darabont wrote two of the six episodes for the first season and co-wrote or rewrote the other four (two of which were written by non-staff writers), he sees no need for a full time writing staff. Instead, he is thinking of assigning scripts to freelancers. That might be harder to manage with a 13 episode second season, but then again, BBC shows like Doctor Who and Torchwood have done very nicely with the freelancers only model.

While there seems to be no final decision on whether or not there will be a writing staff, AMC has confirmed “that there will be changes to the writing staff” for the show’s second season.  As for now, they have plenty of time to figure out the writers situation, with the second season probably debuting next October, just in time for Fearfest 2011.

In other The Walking Dead news, the first season will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray in Spring, 2011. Though there are no DVD or Blu-Ray specifics at this time, we do know it will be distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment.
