The casting of the Captain America film is now in full swing, with Sebastian Stan signing on to play Captain America’s sidekick, Bucky Barnes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Stan had initially tested for the role of Captain America which ultimately went to Chris Evans after an exhaustive search. Insiders say that Stan has signed on for five to six other Marvel pictures as Bucky Barnes. Stan starred in the short lived NBC series Kings and also had a stint on the CW’s Gossip Girl.
In comics, Bucky Barnes was a teenage orphan who was too young to join the army during World War II, but finds out Captain America’s secret identity and joins him as his teenage partner in fighting the Nazis. The character died in Captain America’s final WWII adventure, but was resurrected in 2005 at first as covert assassin Winter Soldier. No confirmation yet from Marvel if the Winter Soldier persona will be a part of this film.
The First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled to film this summer and will be directed by Joe Johnston.
