‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Hangs On To Top Box Office Spot

Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World stayed atop the domestic box office in its second weekend with $28.3 million despite slipping a whopping 68 percent. The film may not be able to recover its monumental production costs, partially due to getting slapped with a B- CinemaScore, the worst grade in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Coming in No. 2 with a surprising $14.2 million was Osgood Perkins‘ The Monkey, the intensely graphic horror movie about a pair of twins and their childhood toy. The $10 million movie is loosely based on a short story by Stephen King.

Paddington in Peru came in No. 3 with $6.5 million, followed by Dog Man with $5.9 million and Chinese animation sensation Ne Zha 2 with $3 million. The latter has become the top-grossing animated film of all time at the global box office with more than $1.7 billion in ticket sales.
