Continuing Marvel Studios and Disney’s winning streak, Joss Whedon‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron opened to $187.7 million from 4,276 theaters in North America, the No. 2 opening of all time behind The Avengers. Industry analysts claim that the film suffered due to competition from the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, apparently believing that Avengers fans were waiting for 11:30 Saturday night to see the film. In its opening weekend, Age of Ultron garnered half of what previous box office topper Furious 7 earned in the three weeks of its release.
