Marc Webb’s “Amazing Spider-Man” spun a strong enough web in its worldwide debut to ensure a new future for Sony’s marquee franchise, including a six-day domestic opening of $140 million. The film earned $65 million over the weekend to wrap up its Independence Day holiday week. While Spider-man is a better known character, the film did not match the record-breaking start of “Marvel’s The Avengers.”
