Fourth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie Passes $600 Million

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides crossed the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office on Sunday, matching the industry record for speed set by the last Pirates film. Both On Stranger Tides and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End reached $600 million in only 12 days

Part of the box office total is attributed to the higher prices charged by 3D theaters. Despite declining demand for 3D films in the United States, the international market for 3D is increasing due to more theaters being newly equipped to handle the technology.
