District 9’s Copley in Talks for I Am Number Four

Copley_Pettyfer_Number_FourSharlto Copley isn’t a well known name yet, but might well soon be. After gaining notoriety in District 9 last year as racist turned eluctant hero Wikus Van De Merwe, he snagged the role of Howling Mad Murdock in this summer’s upcoming A-Team film, and is now in talks to join the cast of DreamWorks I Am Number Four.

The film’s story is based on the upcoming young adult novel by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, in which a group of aliens escape their home world before its destruction at the hands of a rival species and hide from their enemies on earth, disguised as teenagers.  According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog,  Copley is in talks to play a man from a servant class on the aliens home planet, who becomes guardian and mentor to the title character, number Four, to be played by Alex Pettyfer.

D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) is directing from a script by Smallville’s Al Gough and Miles Millar, with Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg producing.

James Frey and Jobie Hughes book on which the film is being based, will be released this fall by HarperCollins Children’s Books, with a possible five more in the works.
