According to news coming from Deadline Hollywood, Paul WS Anderson has signed on to direct a Buck Rogers film. He’ll be working from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man).
Anderson has said “Buck has already been such a huge influence on action-adventure franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, so for me it is a thrilling opportunity to be allowed to return to the source, and relaunch such an epic character.”
Buck Rogers started out as a swashbuckling hero in a pair of pulp stories from the late 1920’s. The premise is a simple one, depending on which version you know. He’s a pilot/astronaut that awakens 500 years in the future and helps to save earth from an evil ruler. Buck has appeared in numerous comic books, radio shows, films, a popular movie serial from the 30’s and a television series of the late ’70’s.
Buck Rogers will produced by Anderson and partner Jeremy Bolt with Paradox Entertainment. Paradox is now filming another pulp hero, Conan the Barbarian, in Bulgaria. Like almost every film now, Buck will be shot in 3D. No word yet on when shooting will commence.
