Twentieth Century Fox’s prequel X-Men: First Class shot to the head of the class with a $56 million debut at the domestic box office. While the well-reviewd film over took the blockbuster Hangover 2 to win the weekend and the studio to proclaim that a new era has begun for its marquee superhero franchise, First Class did not score as well as previous X-men outings.
