Wes Craven and Cast Scream 4 More

Scream_4In a move that everyone and their grandma saw coming, Dimension Films announced today that the fourth installment of the Scream Series is starting production this spring, with all the original players in tact.  Wes Craven announced via his twitter feed that he will direct, and creator of the Scream franchise, Kevin Williamson is writing the screenplay.

Also, Neve Campbell, David and Courteney Cox-Arquette are signed on to reprise their original roles.  They will be joined by a new group of young actors who are not yet announced.

Craven stated in a press release “Working with Courteney, David, and Neve was a blast ten years ago and I’m sure it will be again. Kevin is right on his game with the new script — the characters and story crackle with energy and originality — to say nothing of some of the most hair-raising scares I’ve seen in a script since… well, since the original Scream series. Let me at it.”

According to Williamson, this first film will be the start of a new trilogy of Scream films that take place after the events of the first trilogy and is NOT a reboot of the series.  Williamson’s script will touch upon Asian horror, torture porn and vampires genres, all that have become popular since the Scream trilogy ended in 2000.

The film’s release date is now tentatively set at April 12, 2011.
