Warp Films to Take Blood Oath

Blood_OathYet another vampire will be making it to the big screen shortly, and this one we’ve never met before.  According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Warp Films has acquired the rights to the brand new novel Blood Oath by Christopher Farnsworth.

Blood oath follows Nathaniel Cade, a vampire captured by the army shortly after the Civil War. Nathaniel swears loyalty to President Andrew Jackson, to protect and serve the president until the present day, where he must thwart plans for an army of Frankenstein monster super-soldiers.

“It always starts with the character for me,” said Lucas Foster, the producer of such thrillers as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Law Abiding Citizen. “Cade has an amazing history, a great attitude and a great set of powers. He is a complete movie figure.”

Foster has bought the rights to Blood Oath and its follow up, Black Site, which Farnsworth is currently working on. Even though it seems we are getting inundated with vampire films at the moment and the thought of a vampire Bond seems very “out there”, Foster is very excited about the project.

“It’s a big idea and it’s an idea that in the wrong hands could have been cheesy. He [Farnsworth] did a very good job of making the reader, and me, buy it. It’s the right tone between thriller and improbable fantasy.”

No word on when the vampire thriller will go before cameras, but the book Blood Oath is published by Penguin/Putnam and is available today, May 18, with a suggested retail price of $24.95.
