Tribeca Film Fest Announces Partial Line Up For this Year

Tribeca_Film_FestToday the 9th Annual Tribeca Film Festival The 9th Annual announced a partial line up for this years festivals, which will run from April 21st – May 2nd.  This year’s roster will showcase 85 feature films. The rest of the film fest’s line up will be announced Monday, March 15th.

The festival this year will open with the premiere the 3-D “Shrek Forever After” at the Ziegfeld theater in Manhattan with the after-party at MoMA.

The 85 feature films that are being shown were chosen from a record 5,055 submissions for inclusion at the festival. The planners said the films for this year are coming from 38 countries with 38 of the 85 features being directorial debuts. The festival includes 47 short films and 45 World Premieres this year.

In the film fest’s Special Events this year is a showing of the newly restored David Lean’s 1965 epic “Doctor Zhivago” and Alex Gibney’s (Casino Jack and the United States of Money) work in progress documentary of New York Governor Elliot Spitzer, who resigned from office due to a sex scandal.

The Tribeca Film festival was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff to help revitalize lower Manhattan after 9/11, and has grown to become a spring fixture in New York City and now shows films at theaters all over the city.

This years films will be separated into 9 different sections: World Narrative Competition, World Documentary Competition, Cinemania, Discovery, Encounters, Spotlight, Showcase, Galas and Special Events.

The first four sections announced today were World Narrative Competition, World Documentary Competition, Showcase and Speical Events. Here are those sections film line ups announced:

World Narrative Feature Competition:
