Tim Burton Casts Familiar Voices for Frankenweenie

Frankenweenie_Voice_CastTim Burton, as always, has tapped familiar actors to voice his stop motion animated feature film based on his 1984 short, Frankenweenie, for Walt Disney Pictures, according to Deadline.

Frankenweenie tells the tale of Victor, a boy who re-animates his dog Sparky after he had been hit by a car. Burton has signed his Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice star Winona Ryder to be the voice of  Elsa and Martin Landau, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi in Burton’s Ed Wood, will voice Mr. Rzykruski. SCTV alumni Martin Short, who was among many in Burton’s Mars Attacks, and Catherine O’Hara, who co-starred in Beetlejuice, will be voicing five characters each.

Burton’s group of animators are working from a script by Burton collaborator John August (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride). Frankenweenie is scheduled for release by Disney on March 9, 2012.
