For those who haven’t heard, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’s Broadway opening has been delayed yet again with March 15th being it’s new Opening night, giving the production five extra weeks to fix the problems of what seems to be a very troubled musical. Lead producers, Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris, stated that the production needs more time to fine tune aspects of the show, including a new ending. Two preview performances, January 18 and January 25, have been canceled to give the production more time in rehearsal.
“SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is ten-times more complicated to tech than anything else, and the preview schedule allows for only very limited rehearsal time (twelve hours per week)” stated Cohl. “We simply need more time to fully execute the creative team’s vision before freezing the show. I picked a date in March that allows me to ensure that this will be the final postponement.”
In addition, British record producer, Steve Lillywhite, has been brought in to assist the creative team. According to Deadline, Lillywhite has become a fixture at the Foxwoods theater this past week, assisting Bono and the Edge with what most people agree is a weak score.
According to Broadwayworld.com, multiple major theater critics have now stated that if their editors agree, they WILL begin reviewing the show before opening night, due to the fact that over 200,000 people will have had seen the production before then.
The big question now is.. will Spidey ever officially open on Broadway?
