Twentieth Century Fox’s Riooutperformed expectations in its U.S. launch, grossing an estimated $40 million from 3,826 theaters to help break the long-running box office slump. The film doubled the take of the holder of the number two spot, Screm 4, which brought in an estimated $19.2 million.
