Hawaii governor, Linda Lingle, has issued a press release confirming that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment of the Pirates franchise will be shooting on the islands of Kaua’i and O’ahu. The production is expected to generate an estimated $85 million dollars for the state’s economy and create jobs for local residents.
“The Walt Disney Company has a great relationship with Hawaii that we’re looking forward to building upon with the filming of the latest adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew,” said Iger. “I thank Governor Lingle and her team for their tremendous support of the projects Disney has underway in this great state.”
“We’ve always sought out the most extraordinary and exotic locations for the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer, “and previously shot briefly on both Maui and Moloka’i for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.’ Hawaii provides an amazing range of both land and seascapes, and we’re delighted to return for ‘On Stranger Tides.’”
Rob Marshall will direct the film with Johnny Depp being the only cast member confirmed as of yet. Ted Elliot and Terry Rosio and is reportedly based on the novel by Tim Powers.
In the novel, Jack Sparrow and Barbarossa search for the mystical Fountain of Youth… not that 46 year old Johnny Depp has any need for a Fountain of Youth. The film is scheduled for a May 20, 2011 release date.
