S2 Games is partnering with acclaimed actress and producer Paula Garcés to bring a new hero, Aluna, to the session-based, multiplayer, action-RPG Heroes of Newerth (HoN). Seen in Clockstoppers, the Harold and Kumar movie franchise, and Warehouse 13, Garcés lends her beauty and talent to HoN as the persona and voice behind the new Legion hero Aluna – the character created for Aluna Comics. To see Aluna come to life fans can stop by the Nvidia booth at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco where Garcés will be making a few special appearances to sign autographs on March 2nd and 3rd.
Aluna blurs the lines between the entertainment and gaming industries by bringing the beauty of a Maxim Hot 100 model and the powers of a Latina superhero to life in Newerth. “I wanted to bring the Aluna character to new mediums and HoN is a perfect fit,” said Garcés. “The HoN fans will appreciate Aluna’s unique story and welcome her as a hero in the game.”
Beautiful and spirited, Aluna carries within her the essence of Earth itself – the old Earth which is long since lost to the decay of ages. Carrying the power of the moon in a mystical gem, Aluna strikes at her daemonic foes with deadly speed. Thanks to her skill in battle, she is expected to become a celebrity among the heroes of Newerth, mimicking the life of the actress behind the hero.
Aluna can channel the energy of the earth for strength and healing. By harnessing the pull of the moon she can stand upon the air. With a fully charged gem she has the strength of 10 men and can summon her Macana Stick. When the earth is aligned and the conditions are just right, Aluna can travel to the past and the future, which she sees on the surface of moonlit water. The earth rumbles ever so lightly underneath her when danger is near. As a child in Spain, she trained in the arts of fencing and hand combat. She can grow weak if she fights for too long without recharging (pulling from the earth’s life force. Aluna’s gemstone, vital to her survival, reveals her level of strength. If the gem is red, she has full power and if it fades to green it signals a loss of power. To celebrate Aluna and her gemstone necklace, jeweler Donna Distefano has created limited edition Aluna necklaces reminiscent of what the hero wears in both the comic book and the game. The necklaces, made to match the beauty of Garcés, each feature a 46-carat rare green garnet and will be given to five lucky HoN fans in upcoming giveaways.
Aluna is the 75th hero and will be available for players at 9 pm EST on February 25th. Visit the HoN Facebook page for more details on Aluna and the gem giveaway.
