Paul Greengrass in Talks to Direct Fantastic Voyage

Greengrass_Fantastic_VoyageDirector Paul Greengrass is now in talks with James Cameron’s production company Lightstorm Entertainment to helm the 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage, according to Variety. Twentieth Century Fox is backing the film and it will likely be shot using the same 3D technology developed for Avatar.

Shane Salermo (the Alien vs Predator films) has been working on the script for the film. The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the story for this update will not stray far from the original, which followed a group of scientists who get miniaturized in order to save the life of another scientist with the help of a high tech submarine. Word is that the Cold War subplot will be replaced with something more relevant to today’s audiences.

Greengrass is best known for the Bourne sequels, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum and as well as Matt Damon’s latest, Green Zone. He’s done action well and the Bourne films were fun to watch, so it could be interesting to see what he does with the new technology that might be at his disposal for this film.
