It’s official. According to both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Evans has accepted the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America from Marvel Studios. He will be playing Captain America in nine other features including potential sequels, “The Avengers” and other unannounced projects.
Word came out late last week that he had been offered the role, but Evans considered the deal over the weekend before making his decision. The Hollywood Reporter has stated that negotiations are moving along so swiftly now, that “it’s just a matter of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s”.
Evans is also set to appear opposite Anna Faris in the romantic comedy “What’s Your Number?”, which is scheduled to shoot around the same time as the Captain America film. No word yet on the future of that project now.
The First Avenger: Captain America is set to start filming this summer and will be directed by Joe Johnston.
