Nathan Lane Brings Aunt May To Broadway

In an attempt to revive the fortunes of the ill-fated “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark” and appeal to more traditional Broadway audiences, producers unveiled a surprising new cast member. Broadway star Nathan Lane will be appearing in the production, as Aunt May.

This is not the first time Lane has appeared in drag. He donned a dress in both “The BIrdcage” and “The Producers.” Lane agreed to role immediately. “I’ve been a Spider-Man fan since I was a lad,” he said. “But there was no way I was getting up on those wires.”

The show has cost $60 million to date and the casting of Lane is part of a complete revamp that the show is undergoing, including new scenes, new songs, and new cast members. There is no truth to the rumor that Matthew Broderick will be appearing as Uncle Ben.

When asked about the unusual role Lane quipped, “If you think this role is unusual, you clearly never saw me in ‘Merlin’.”
