Matt Wagner Covers The Green Hornet

Green Hornet Year OneThe Green Hornet: Year One is the acclaimed comic by Eisner Award-winning writer Matt Wagner and artist Aaron Campbell.  Industry legend Matt Wagner is now pulling double duty as the comic’s writer AND cover artist for the final part of Act 1, and all of Act II of Green Hornet and Kato’s first year.  Set in the golden age of comics and history, writer Matt Wagner weaves a tale of action and adventure unlike anything else seen on the comic racks. Add in the exquisite art of Aaron Campbell, now with covers by Matt Wagner beginning with issue #6, even more comic fans will have a reason to pick up The Green Hornet: Year One.

“It’s no secret that I’m big fan of the GREEN HORNET and these sort of pulp-laden adventure stories in general,” says new cover artist and writer Matt Wagner.  “When I first agreed to take on the writing chores for THE GREEN HORNET: YEAR ONE, I was thrilled to be able to help redefine the somewhat vague origins of this highly influential and dynamic character.  And now I also get the chance to contribute some original imagery to the series as well!  The Hornet and Kato are such a striking and visually dramatic duo, it’s gonna be a blast lending my artistic talents to help showcase the stories that Aaron Campbell and I will be telling inside the book.  I hope my efforts might also entice a few new readers to pick up the book and see the seminal tale we’re weaving herein.  Join us now in the powerful Black Beauty as THE GREEN HORNET rides again!””Matt Wagner is one of the most beloved and well-regarded comic creators of all time,” says Dynamite Entertainment President Nick Barrucci.  “We have been fortunate enough to work with him over the last five years, first on our acclaimed Zorro title, and now with The Green Hornet: Year One!  Matt’s writing on The Green Hornet: Year One has fleshed-out Green Hornet and Kato’s origin definitively, pleasing long-time fans as well as new ones.  John Cassaday’s covers for the first five issues were “Dynamite”, and we are extremely proud that Matt Wagner will take over cover duties!  Come along for a ride on a comic book that will be appreciated for many years to come.”

Also for fans of this classic series, The Green Hornet: Year One Vol. 1: The Sting of Justice TPB, collects the first six issues and ships this October.  This collection features the origin of the original Green Hornet and Kato, told partially in their present day as well as past.  Reprinting issues #1-6, along with a complete cover gallery, this acclaimed collection is written by Matt Wagner and drawn by Aaron Campbell, with a cover by Alex Ross.

The Green Hornet is one of comicdom’s first masked crime fighters. Originally created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker for an American radio program in the 1930’s, the character has appeared in other media as well, including film serials in the 1940’s, a network television program in the 1960s, and multiple comic book series from the 1940s to the 1990s. Though various incarnations sometimes change details, in most incarnations the Green Hornet is Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher by day who by night goes out in his masked “Green Hornet” identity to fight crime as a vigilante, accompanied by his similarly masked Asian manservant Kato and driving a car, equipped with advanced technology, called “Black Beauty”.
