Marvel Announces Yet Another Crossover Event

At a press conference held at Midtown Comics, Marvel announced that despite being told by fans “enough already” they will be releasing yet another multi-comic crossover event. Joe Quesada stated that Marvel Comics are best when they relate to the real world, and to prove that he announced that the heroes of the Marvel Universe will be facing off against the God of Fear, because what could resemble the real world more than a god walking through the streets of New York.

In what sounds like a ripoff of DC’s “Blackest Night” event, the Marvel heroes will face an “extinction level” event, much like they did in House of M, Secret Invasion, and a myriad of other mega-crossovers.

The executives at Marvel were careful to point out that you can read the main 7-issue series and get the whole story without reading any of the ancillary stories that will occur in their monthly books. I say “careful” because based on what they didn’t say, it seems a safe bet that of you are a regular reader of any Marvel series, you will not be able to make heads nor tails of what is going on in the book you already read unless you read that seven issue series.

Marvel executives seem oblivious that the fact that a reader cannot tell what is going on in a book without two years of backstory is what is killing the comic industry. They seem to be happy enough to kill the golden goose, as long as they can take twenty or more issues to do so.

Just when you thought Marvel couldn’t announce anything worse than Spider-Man: The Musical, April brings “Fear Itself.”
