Los Angeles Times Kicks Off Hero Complex Film Festival

-The Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex Film Festival blasts into its second super-heroic year over four days at the Chinese 6 Theatre in Hollywood beginning June 9th. Eight iconic fan favorites will return to the big screen with rare live Q&A sessions with their filmmakers – and a surprise or two – hosted by pop culture writer Geoff Boucher.

The festival opens with Warren Beatty and his acclaimed take on the famed 1930’s gumshoe, “Dick Tracy.” Next up, the history and future of one of science fiction’s most beloved franchises will be showcased with the unique pairing of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and director Nicholas Meyer followed by 2009’s “Star Trek” and creative team members Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof discussing the reboot and its upcoming sequel. Richard Donner will then provide behind-the-scenes perspective on the legendary shooting of “Superman” and “Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut” with a special appearance by DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer and famed comic book writer Geoff Johns. Finally, Jon Favreau will talk about bringing “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2” to theatrical life.

The festival will also feature a free weekend matinee of “The Incredibles,” after which select footage from this summer’s action-packed comedy “Cars 2” will be shown and attendees will get to chat with supervising animator Dave Mullins about the making of the film.

Tickets are available starting today. A limited number of multi-day festival passes are being offered and include a print of the exclusive 2011 Hero Complex Film Festival poster designed by superstar comic book artist and writer Mike Mignola. Tickets can also be bought for individual days and the complete festival schedule is posted at latimes.com/herocomplexfilmfest.

The Los Angeles Times’ award-winning Hero Complex debuted in 2008 as the first site by a major mainstream news outlet dedicated to genre-based film, TV and publishing projects. Hero Complex has gone on to become a wildly popular must-read for all things “geek” and hosts numerous events throughout the year, including a new, soon-to-be-announced Screening Series of upcoming releases, a dedicated area for comic and graphic novels at the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and an influential presence at Comic-Con.

The Hero Complex Film Festival is being presented in association with USA Network, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and TNT’s “Falling Skies,” a 2-hour series premiere event June 19th, 9pm.
