With the debacle of the Raimi/Sony split over Spider-Man in January just a faded memory now, all seems to be coming together for the planned reboot of the webslinger’s franchise. According to Hitfix, Sony Pictures first choice to play Peter Parker is Logan Lerman, star of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. A source close to the production says that Lerman is “almost 100% locked” but nothing is official as of yet.
Lerman’s name has been bandied about for the film ever since talk of a reboot started back in January. At only 18, seems like a very age appropriate choice for the film. The story will follow a young Peter Parker as he tentatively takes those first swings from high school nerd to webslinging superhero.
Marc Webb is set to direct, with a script by James Vanderbilt (the Losers, Zodiac). Filming is scheduled for later this year. The as yet untitled Spider-Man reboot has a July 2012 release date.
