HBO has green lit the fantasy series, Game of Thrones. It is one of the most highly anticipated shows HBO has ever done and has committed to the pilot and nine additional episodes.
Game of Thrones is based on the series of books by George R.R. Martin, and “is an epic struggle for power set in a vast and violent fantasy kingdom.” It will chronicle the conflicts between several families on the mythical continent of Westeros. The image shown here is the first from the series.
The series cast includes Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Jennifer Ehle (Pride and Glory), Mark Addy (The Full Monty and TV’s Still Standing), Lena Headey (300) and Peter Dinklage (Death at a Funeral).
The pilot for the series was shot in Northern Ireland and other European and North African locations in late 2009. Production for the series will start in June in Northern Ireland. Although industry insiders are speculating that the show won’t arrive before 2011, no date has been set for its premiere.
