Green Lantern Gets Father and CGI Costume

Tenney_Green_LanternWith the production of Martin Campbell’s latest film, Green Lantern, already filming in New Orleans since last month, one more name has been added to the cast.  Actor Jon Tenney, who plays agent Fritz Howard on The Closer, has joined the cast as Hal Jordan’s father, Martin Jordan.

“Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I’m his father,” said Tenney, in an interview with Superherohype. “I’m Hal Jordan’s dad. I’m very excited — it’s incredible company.”

Tenney has also stated that the script for the film is being kept under lock and key, and even though it is only being released in sections, he’s said that the portion he has read is amazing.

In the comics, Hal Jordan’s father was a test pilot, and Hal’s idol before he dies in a plane he was test flying. It was his father’s memory that spurned Hal Jordan on to become a test pilot himself.

In other Green Lantern news, it seems that the Green Lantern’s costume will be added later as CGI.  According to /Film,  the suit that Ryan Reynold’s is wearing now is a grey tracking motion/capture suit with red lights. The production’s costume designer Ngila Dickson (Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King) was asked to find a way to make to suit stand apart from the spandex superhero suits of the past.  Supposedly, the CGI will make the suit look more like a “manifestation of his power.”

Green Lantern has a release date of June 17, 2011 starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, Angela Basset and Gattlin Griffth (reportedly as the young Hal Jordan).
