Columbia has tapped Disturbia scribe, Carl Ellsworth, to write the screenplay for a live-action film adaptation of the R.L. Stine series of Goosebumps books, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business blog.
Along with Disturbia, Ellsworth wrote Red Eye, and co-wrote the remakes of Last House on the Left and the upcoming Red Dawn.
R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series of books began in 1992 with the book Welcome to Dead House. Scholastic published 67 books in the original Goosebumps series from 1992-1997. Since then, multiple spin-off Goosebumps series’ have been published. Over 300 million copies of Goosebumps books have been sold worldwide.
Columbia picked up the rights to the wildly popular book series in May 2008, which has already spawned TV shows, direct to video movies and video games, but this will be the first time Goosebumps will be given the big screen treatment. No word yet on who will direct.
