Update — For the second consecutive session, Sunday box office estimates failed to crown the right film as weekend boxoffice champion. “Kick-Ass” overtook “How to Train Your Dragon.” Final official data released by Rentrak on Monday showed that “Kick-Ass” rung up $19.8 million, compared with a $19.6 million weekend haul for “Dragon.” —
For the second time this month, the box office lurched towards a photo finish as “How To Train Your Dragon” and “Kick Ass” took the top two spots with only $250,000 separating them. Dragon took the top spot, crossing the finish line with @20 million for the weekend, while “Kick Ass” debut with $19,750,000.
