Aronfosky to Direct Web-Book Machine Man

Aronofsky_Barry_Machine_ManDarren Aronofsky will direct the web-published story, Machine Man, by Max Barry for Mandalay Pictures, according to the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog.

Machine man is described as ” an amped up pop-thriller,” that centers on an engineer that decides his average, tedious life needs an upgrade which he does physically, replacing his own “weak,  fleshy parts” with high-end titanium ones.  He soon realizes that “others” out there now have “designs on him for their own motives.”

Based on the web-published novel by Barry, which he has been posting a page per day as an online serial, Madalay Pictures picked up the property last year.  The full novel will be in print in the Spring of 2011 and wil be published by Vintage Books.  Aronfosky is enlisting his Black Swan co-writer to adapt the book for the screen.

Until production begins on Machine Man, Aronfosky will have his hands full.  He’ll be promoting the Oscar buzz worthy Black Swan, due in theaters December 3. He is also very close to closing his deal to direct Wolverine 2, which is set to go before cameras next year in New York, before the production travels to Japan for further shooting.
