Anthony Hopkins to Play Evil Sorcerer in Arabian Nights

Sir_Anthony_HopkinsAnthony Hopkins is going from playing the Norse God Odin in Thor to an evil sorcerer in Chuck Russell’s (The Scorpion King) latest film, Arabian Nights, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog.

Hopkins will be working with Liam Hemsworth on Arabian Nights, after working with Liam’s brother Chris, who plays the title character in Thor.  Liam will be starring as a young commander who joins forces with Sinbad, Ali Baba and the Genie of the Lamp to rescue queen Scheherazade. Hopkins character, Pharotu, is a sorcerer who has murdered the king as well as Hemsworth’s mermaid love and is trying to amass more magic to rule the kingdom.

Chuck Russell is directing from a screenplay he wrote alongside Barry P Ambrose. The film goes before cameras at the end of the summer. In the meantime, Hopkins will be starring as a rebel exorcist in the film The Rite with Ciarán Hinds (There Will be Blood, In Bruges), Alice Braga (the upcoming Predators film), Toby Jones (Infamous, Friost/Nixon) & Colin O’Donoghue (the Tudors).
