Corey Haim, A Lost Boy Forever

Corey_HaimOne time teen heartthrob and young star of the Lost Boys, Corey Haim has passed away in the early hours of March 10th, in Los Angeles at the age of 38.  Haim was suffering from flu-like symptoms and four prescription medications were found at his home. Haim was found unresponsive in his apartment in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley and was taken to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

With 1987’s The Lost Boys, he and the other Corey (Corey Feldman) became fast friends, as well as teen idols. More films followed with the two including License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream. Their friendship endured for years, though Haim became addicted to drugs and drinking. The two did reconcile after the show’s end.

Corey Feldman has released this statement to the press:

“I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived. “

Haim was in the midst of making a comeback over the last couple of years, with a role in Crank: 2 and a small role in The Lost Boys: The Tribe. Producer Tina Brown said Haim was set to start filming his directorial debut with the film A Detour in Life later this spring. In 2008, Haim had put out a full page ad in Variety, which read “This is not a stunt. I’m back.  I’m ready to work. I’m ready to make amends.”
