Details Emerge On Spielberg-Abrams Project

Spielberg AbramsThe Hollywood Reporter unveiled details of the Steven Spielberg -J.J. Abrams project, known as “Super 8.” The moviemaking heavyweights began collaborating on the hush-hush project a year ago.

Abrams has written the original script and will direct the film this fall for a summer 2011 release through Paramount, where Abrams’ shingle, Bad Robot, resides. Spielberg is producing the project, along with Abrams and his producing partner Bryan Burk. The film will be in the $45 million-$50 million range.

While rumors had surfaced about the film being related to “Cloverfield” and being shot with a hand-held camera, these rumors have proven to be false.

Paramount has high hopes for the project and is scheduling during an already crowded Summer 2011 schedule. Aside from this project, the studio already has “Thor,” “Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom,” “Transformers 3,” “First Avenger: Captain America” slated to arrive that summer.
