Hugo Weaving May Don Red Skull

Hugo_Weaving_Red_SkullWhile Marvel Studios still searches for the right actor to fill Captain America’s costume, it seems that they might have snatched the perfect guy to play his arch nemesis.  According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, Hugo Weaving is allegedly very close to closing the deal to play the Red Skull in Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The deal is at a very delicate stage at the moment, but we should know for sure in the next day or so.

Weaving has been in such films as V for Vendetta, The Matrix, The Wolfman, and in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and seems like a perfect fit.

The Captain America film will follow Steve Rogers going from a zero to hero  in World War II after he undergoes an army experiment to become the perfect American Soldier. When Rogers heads over to Germany to fight the Nazis and their lead henchman the Red Skull, an accident takes both Captain America and the Red Skull to present day where Captain America gets involved with The Avengers.

As of now, there is still no word on who will be Steve Rogers/Captain America.  Although many had speculated earlier in the week that the role would go to John Krasinski, he has been ruled out of the running. Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) and Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) are still in the running, but only time will tell.
